Hamburg History Museum
Constructed by Fritz Schuhmacher between 1912 and 1920,
the Hamburg History Museum lodges the historical collection
that was compiled throughout the time by the Hamburg History
Association. The museum was inaugurated in 1922 and destroyed
by the allied bombs in World War II. The extended reconstruction
work was finally completed with the glass cupola that
festoons its inner patio since 1989. Its main task at
the present time is to document the history of the city
through the reconstruction of demolished buildings using
the original elements. An example of it, is the reconstruction
of St Peter Portal, seriously damaged by the bombs.
