Hesse
This region occupies the center-south of Germany and,
although its capital is Wiesbaden, an important bath centre,
the most important city is Frankfurt, economic centre
of first order. Here are the seats of the European Central
bank and the German Federal Bank. Its fairground is one
of most important of Europe and its airport has the greatest
merchandise traffic of Europe and the second in number
of passengers. Most of the interest places are in the
enclosure that before protected the walls and that now
are an urban semicircle closing of parks and gardens.
Here is the Rumerberg, the old seat of the city.
Described as "one entangled and colorful succession
of landscapes and mountains", Hesse has volcanic
zones, vineyards, rustic territories and rich farming
places. Some of their more interesting cities, in addition
to Frankfurt and Wiesbaden, are Fulda - Episcopal locality
with an outstanding baroque architecture-, Marburgo, Giessen,
Bergstrasse and Rheingau, being these two winery centres
of the region.
