Schleswig-Holstein
Northern Germany peninsula on the Denmark boundary, is
bathed by the North an Baltic Seas. This land (state)
it has three million inhabitants and lives on the commerce
with the Scandinavian countries. Its greater attraction
is its varied and rich nature such as, the Sea Wadden
National Park, the salt marshes or the "Holstein
Switzerland", a set of lakes and valleys.
The capital is Kiel, a city very related to the sea and
where is harboured the ship-school Gorch Fock. It has
important shipyards and every year celebrates "the
week of Kiel", with worldwide famous regatta competitions.
The other city of the region is Lübek, whose medieval
set is catalogued by UNESCO as " Humanity Cultural
Patrimony". Most of its places of interest are in
the Altstadt, an oval island formed by the Trave river
waters, and the old city pits.
It also worth the trouble to visit the Helgoland Islands,
famous by its red cliffs, Sylt, Föhr and Amrun, as
well as the locality of Schleswig, with its interesting
cathedral: here is the Bordesholm altar, a late gothic
masterpiece.
